Rogers screws us again
So Rogers announced their super, special, high value, only in Canada, voice/data plans for the upcoming iPhone 3G. There were rumours about a $30 unlimited data plan that is similar to our friend’s AT&T plan down south, where you can add it to an existing voice plan. Well, Rogers is so far off expectations that people are really ticked off now. Let’s take a look.
So we waited a whole year for this crap? As if signing our lives away to a 3 year contract wasn’t punishing enough, they pull this little stunt. Come on Rogers! At least give us Canadians a fair deal here.
Say we go with their cheapest option, the $60 plan. Let’s discuss some points.
- 150 weekday minutes. People will definitely go over this limit and then pay 35c/min thereafter. Just not enough for a typical cellular user.
- Unlimited evenings/weekends. Oh yay, unlimited… at 9PM! Next thing you know, they’ll offer “unlimited midnights” and start it at 12AM. To have it start at 6PM, add $20/mo to fall back 3 hours. Tip: Fido early evening starts at 5PM.
- Unlimited access to Rogers/Fido hotspots. Ok, this is news to me. Where are these hotspots? Probably no where that’s convenient for us.
- 400mb data. HAHA. This is ridiculous. Watch a few YouTube videos, browse Flickr, send email photo attachments, use A-GPS, all on their blazing “high-speed” 3G network, and say goodbye to your allowed data. Then say hello to 50c/mb up to 60mb, or another $30 to your bill. This has to be unlimited.
When all said and done, you’re going to pay approximately $100/mo (or more, depending on plan) for 3 years to use a brand spanking new iPhone 3G. Well, you know what, f*ck you Rogers.
