Canucks Sweep Blues, Enter Rd 2

Wow, my last post was when the Canucks signed Sundin, which was at the end of last year! A lot has happened since then, including the dreaded January streak, which everyone seems to forget about right now. There’s a reason for that. The Canucks have been without a doubt, the hottest team in the later part of the season. Luongo has been very hot lately and Sundin has contributed here and there.
The first round of the playoffs was an exciting time for all Canucks fans. Luongo only gave us a taste in the playoffs a couple years ago when he faced off against the Stars. He was amazing. Ever since then, Canucks fans have been drooling at another run with Luongo, and the time has come. Watching this first round gives you the chills, similar to that of the Canucks’ 94 run. It’s truly an exciting time of the year.
Here are some of the memorable moments from the Blues series:
- Game 1, it all started with the refs going penalty crazy, calling everything they could. Special teams became important and it would be the deciding factor for the series.
- Game 1, Luongo robbing McDonald with a cat-like pad save to keep it 1-0.
- Game 1, Salo scoring with his signature blast from the point. Although, I think Bernier got his stick on it. Could have been his second goal of the series.
- Game 2, Luongo shuts the door. Sundin’s masterful redirected goal (and bloody eye). Burrow’s first of many for the series.
- Game 3, Ohlund’s point shot trickles in 5-hole. Daniel’s little poke for the 2-0 goal. Beriner’s quick hands to pop in the winning goal.
- Game 4, Wellwood opens the scoring with a beautiful deke right in front of Mason’s face. Skills.
- Game 4, Burrows redirects a point shot from O’Brien. He makes it look easy.
- Game 4, the final overtime, series winning, goal from Burrows. Legendary.
I cannot wait for the next round. It’s been quiet in the city lately, but we’re still keeping an eye on the other two Western games. I perfer that we match up with either the Flames/Hawks, rather than the red hot Wings. If we play the Flames/Hawks like the last games we played with them, we should be fine. So, go Ducks! And bring on round 2!
